Nineteen-year-old American pianist Phillip Matsuura began his musical studies at the age of four and currently studies under the tutelage Peter Takács at Oberlin Conservatory. An alumnus of YoungArts (2014), the Los Angeles Music Center Spotlight Awards (2012) and a gold medal laureate of the Southern California Bach Festival (2012), Phillip has garnered prizes and recognition on stages throughout his native Greater Los Angeles Metropolitan Area and nationwide. He has played in master classes for pianists such as John Perry, Elizabeth Joy Roe, Malcolm Bilson and Thomas Sauer, and has previously studied with such artists as Robert Shannon, Nina Scolnik, Tao Chang and Scott McBride Smith. Training platforms include Tanglewood (2013), the Beethoven Institute at Mannes College The New School for Music (2013) and the International Institute for Young Musicians (2011 and 2010).
